Who selects the Cream of the Crop titles?

Cream of the Crop titles are selected by the Southern Maine Library District (SMLD) Book Group. Librarians in school and public library settings gather monthly to discuss book titles and choose the best titles for inclusion in the Cream of the Crop collection.

Does the SMLD only choose YA fiction for Cream of the Crop?

The entire Cream of the Crop list can be found here; it contains fiction and non-fiction in picture books, junior titles, and young adult titles. For practical considerations, BumperCrop currently only contains young adult fiction from CotC. If users of the site are interested in the expansion of the micro-digital library to include other areas of CotC titles, please contact Bumpercrop.

My favorite YA fiction title from 2011 did not make the list! To whom should I complain?

Well, you shouldn't complain at all. There are many wonderful, deserving YA fiction titles and only so many librarians in Southern Maine BUT if you have a YA fiction title from 2012 that you think should be considered for next year's Cream of the Crop collection, drop us a line and we'll pass it along to the SMLD.

Where could I find suggestions for other great YA fiction?

BumperCrop looks for information about CotC titles (tags, author info, etc.) at goodreads.com and TeenReads.com
